Knight Ballad
Once rode a knight in armor black
with a sword no stone could bend
He tortured all the countryside
of which there was no end
A peasant came up to the knight
and begged of him to stop
The bold knight said "I'll have your head"
and did so with a chop
At this the people cried aloud
"oh mercy, pray thee cease"
The laughter echoed far and near
"as I live there'll be no peace"
To seek the help of neighbors near
another slipped away
The deviled one soon spotted him
and then said "thee I'll slay"
At this he drew his mighty sword
and raised it to the clouds
And as the sword ran through his heart
the peasant screamed aloud
"May you be damned for what you've
done for soon I shall return
To take your soul to Satan's home
where your cold heart shall burn"
At this the killer only laughed
for he did not believe
He slew three other helpless souls
and told the rest to leave
At this the countryside grew bare
of every man and child
The knight demanded quietness
so no one dared to be wild
The prince of darkness fell asleep
but soon he wakened fast
For in a dream he heard the words
"beware, I've come at last"
It was the ghost who'd cursed the knight
and hell lay through the door
And to this day throughout the land
the knight was seen no more
